Opened in December 2004 in the former site of L'Odeon next to Piccadilly Circus, the name Cocoon certainly fits to Stephane Dupoux's first London design ....
Low ceiling and round shaped windows was a good base to create interconnected cocoons dividing the restaurant, sushi bar, lounge and private rooms.
Inspired by the lifecycle of the butterfly, he decorated walls and cocoon-shaped furniture using silks, woods and flowers with modern contemporary fabrics. Ingredients from south east Asia, China and Japan allow the menu to offer dishes such as Jungle Curry with mixed seafood and Hamachi Salad. The two separate sushi bars serve dynamite spider (crispy soft shell crab) or Toiko caviar and Unagi (warm eel and cucumber).
Steve Manktelow created a vibrant cocktails list including the Koshiku – fragrant Kaffir lime-infused kome-shochu, fresh sour passion fruit juice, sweet acacia honey and a dash of ginger, shaken like mad and served with a gentle froth in a cinnamon sugar-rimmed Martini glass with a passion fruit 'boat'.
