So sometimes, when I see ads on TV, I try to imagine how the agency sold their ideas to their client. Like the ad I've just seen on TV for Comcast. Imagine ...
"OK guys" says the agency person "We have a really fabulous idea for your latest TV campaign."
The clients smile and sit back happily, awaiting this amazing new ad campaign idea.
"The ads starts" says the agency person "with a shot of an athletic woman on a diving board. Then there's a yell for help. The camera goes down and we see a bloke in the pool saying that he can't swim. The woman dives down from the diving board and rescues him. And then comes the punchline voiceover "AMAZING SAVINGS!" Isn't that brilliant? I know that you love it".
In all probability, the client would ask a) how the image of someone drowning portrays anything remotely positive b) what is a chap who can't swim going in a swimming pool anyway and c) how the hell they expect that to sell cable and internet services?
At which point, in reality, the client would look at the agency person, he would shake his head sadly and drive straight to TSDG where he should have gone in the first place.
How do these people get away with it?
