Unfortunately, we haven't yet achieved an ideal world. But in that ideal world, TSDG would have a team of designers, represented by the photograph above, just sitting round waiting for the work to come in.
Then, as soon as a work order was received, one or more of them would swing into action.
Hmm ... just a few problems with that.
The first problem is that there just aren't that many good designers around. I would love to have fifty designers but we just can't find designers who are good enough. Instead, we get people who have done a couple of years at college and think they are the finished product ... oh dear ... you wouldn't believe just how bad they are.
But the second problem is even more serious. Imagine that, by some miracle, we found fifty fantastic designers. And there they are, sitting round waiting for your work order, just like in the picture.
Well, the trouble is that - strangely - people expect to be PAID. So I don't really think that it's a good idea to have designers sitting round just waiting for your work requests. Do you?
So until we figure a way out of this problem (cloning our current, wonderful staff?) then we'll just have to work in the old-fashioned way.
You must have used automated phone systems where a disembodied voice tells you that your call "will be answered in the order in which it was received"? (Couldn't they re-phrase that to produce some better English?)
Well, your work orders are scheduled (and therefore worked on) "in the order in which they are received". Designers are usually scheduled several days in advance. Senior designers are normally scheduled several WEEKS in advance.
If you want to eat at a top restaurant, do you expect to just walk up and get a table?
