If you are a TSDG website client, you'll have seen mention of the build software in your milestones.
You have probably had this explained to you, but here goes!
We have a special website on which we build the blueprint of your website. This website has been fitted with a special software. This software allows people who have no website or coding experience to add, edit or delete text from their blueprint.
Why have we done this? Two reasons.
The first is so that non-web members of the TSDG staff can add, edit or delete the copy on your blueprint. Getting the copy 100% correct can be a time consuming job and the software means that non-web staff can help you with this. This means that any revisions or additions to your blueprint can be made quickly, without us having to schedule the web staff.
But it gets even better.
If you wish, we can let YOU and your content management team have a special user name and password to the editing software, meaning that you and your team can adjust or add the copy on your blueprint. Good, eh?
We know how often you'll want to tweak the copy. As you know, we ask that copy be supplied to us during the very early stages of the website process. However, we do realise that sitting at the computer and typing copy into a plain text document, isn't the same as seeing it on a website.
Often, when clients see their copy on the blueprint, they realise that it needs to change. This is because writing your copy into a document on your computer is very different to reading it on the web, where you've put yourself in the position of your web viewers.
You might find that:
Your copy is too long-winded. Remember that web-viewers have very short attention spans.
Your copy needs breaking up. Long paragraphs just don't work on websites; information needs to be broken into bite-sized chunks.
You have one sentence on one page and yards of copy on another. Once you see this on the blueprint, you'll realise how unprofessional this looks.
One page wih lots of copy should be split into different sections.
Three pages with one sentence each should be condensed into one page.
The tone of voice differs from page to page. This is usually because one person has written the copy over a long period of time or because different departments have written different sections.
The style differs from one page to the next. You refer, for example, to Doctor Smith on one page and Dr. J. Smith on another, or 9am on one page and 9:00 a.m. on another.
There are a lot of problems which could occur which will become evident once you see your copy on the blueprint.
The good news is that you and your team can change the copy as many times as you want to, until you are completely satisfied. And, because this is an online software, it means that you can update or edit the copy on your website from any computer with an internet connection. So, if something occurs to you at 2am on a Sunday morning and you have your laptop handy...
It's such a great system, that sometimes clients ask if they have this software on the full-graphics version of their website. Of course! Actually, the version of the software we would put on your 'real' website is a slightly more sophisticated version.
Yes, you can update your website from, if you wish, the beach. How good is that?
