People here sometimes wonder how I find something to rant on about at this blog every day. All I have to do is sit here.
Sit here, that is, and listen to what's going on. There is an abundance of material. A client called a few minutes ago and said that they had received their statement. There were two invoices on there, one more than 60 days overdue, both for a very small amount for updates to their website.
"It's a bit steep" said the client.
The client has a restaurant. If I was to go that restaurant, dinner for two would cost considerably more than the combined amount of the two invoices. Now I'm not going to deny that running a restaurant requires special skills. Very special. But so does updating a website.
It seems that part of the client's problem was that BOTH sets of changes had to be paid for. Well, they came to us at different times. We'd have been very happy to do both sets of changes at the same time, which would have reduced the cost, had they not arrived in different months!
I'll tell you what. I'll come to your restaurant tonight and have dinner. Then I'll come next week too, but I don't want to pay next week because I already paid you this week. Can I do that at the grocery store too, please? And with the power company? "But I paid you last month".
Yes, that makes about as much sense as the client did.
