The scammers lift your email address from your website. If you receive this latest scam, email, don't worry, there is nothing you need do. What they are hoping for is that you will be alarmed enough to buy the Asian version of your domain name. What??? Yes.
If you are a company that does business in Asia, you may already own the domain with Asian suffixes. Even if you don't, I personally wouldn't bother - everyone knows that .com is standard and .coms will always get better placement in search engines.
But if you're a restaurant in Boca or a nightclub in Miami, you CERTAINLY don't need the Asian versions! Incidentally, you also don't need .net, .org, .tv, .us or any of those either. Why should you?
Here's an example of what the scam email contains:
We are a domain name registration service company in Asia,
Last week we received a formal application submited by xxxxxxx who wanted to use the keyword "xxxxxxxxxxxx" to register the Internet Brand and with suffix such as .cn /.com.cn /.net.cn/.hk/ .asia/ domain names.
After our initial examination, we found that these domain names to be applied for registration are same as your domain name and trademark. We aren’t sure whether you have any relation with him. Because these domain names would produce possible dispute, now we have hold down his registration, but if we do not get your company’s an reply in the next 5 working days, we will approve his company's application
