I was in a meeting with a client the other day who said "Oh, I don't use all this social media stuff".
He went on to say that it was all beyond him and he couldn't see the point of it all.
Well, as I told him, the point is that your CUSTOMERS use it ... and therefore, so should you.
The point is that, in the old days (and I mean the last century), people used to go to the internet to get information. And that was more or less it.
As time went by, they added shopping to this and then a level of interaction came into being with old-style forums. People liked this; they liked the fact that they could now interact with others on the internet. And look what happened.
I have no concrete evidence to support this, but it's now pretty clear that the majority of people go to the internet not to look for information, not to shop ... but to interact with others.
And companies have to make the most of it.
I can't do with this I-am-not-one-of-those-people-who attitude. You should be using Stumbleupon, Digg, Delicious, Twitter, Plaxo, LinkedIn, Facebook, Stylehive, Newsvine, Technorati, Blogged etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. to promotoe your business.
Oh, and that client? I'm old enough to be his mother. Why do I have to teach him new tricks?
