It's always nice to help people ... and isn't life enhanced by those lovely little acts of kindness that we receive?
The bloke who holds the door open for you as you're struggling with your week's groceries, the driver who lets you in to the traffic queue, the production manager who goes out and buys cake for the whole team (thank you Gayle!)
These things brighten your day.
And they make everyone feel good - it's nice to help people.
At TSDG, it's something we like - helping people - it makes us happy. Of course, we don't brag about it (but here I go!) but we enjoy doing pro bono work for various non-profits. We're always willing to be helpful with start-up businesses and let them have the benefit of our experience. And it's always good if we can help other people in the creative business if they are just starting out. As they say, it's not what you know but who you know, and some beginners can benefit enormously from the right introductions and the exposure we can get for them. Wheels within wheels...
Today, this is even more applicable because on the internet, no-one can hide. If you're a restaurant and have have bad reviews, you have to work very hard. Today, anyone can write a bad review about your restaurant (or any business) on one of the thousands of sites that encourage viewers to participate.
It's important, I think, to acknowledge the people who gave you a helping hand. My dad, for example, attributes his enormous business success to a casual meeting with a chap who gave him a helping hand when he was starting his empire back in the 1940s.
Karma ... it's a wonderful thing ...
