I had to chuckle. I got a spam email today that told me that "mobile marketing will be the next big thing!". Really?
Come on. If I'd received that email ... what ... three or four years ago ... they might have been right.
During the last couple of years, we've helped so many of our consultancy clients with 'mobile marketing' but suddenly it's the latest thing and spam-worthy.
Mobile marketing (and I'm not convinced that I like the description as yet) is particularly great for our restaurant clients, that's for sure. But you have to remember that anyone can write a review or comment about your business. You need to keep a careful eye on things.
We recently started working with a new client - a restaurant. On one of the sites which provides a mobile app, it said quite clearly that the restaurant is closed. It isn't of course, but that's just about the most negative thing you could see about your restaurant! A mediocre review or two might not put people off - they're just round the corner and they'd like to try you out for themselves ... but if your business is listed as closed, you're not going to get that opportunity!
That's the only downside with mobile marketing: Your customers will let you hear what they don't like about your business. Although the feedback should be a motivation to be better, there can be times that it can make you feel down.
