I can't believe it's Wednesday. Actually, I can't believe it's February. And, as someone who was born in a remarkably nondescript decade, I can hardly believe it's 2010.
As I read somewhere on New Year's Day, where's my flying car? I was pretty amazed, in 1984, to find that big brother wasn't actually watching me. I suppose I'm just too gullible.
I had looked forward to the paperless society and was really keen on the idea that I'd have so much leisure time because computers were going to everything for me; from cooking my dinner to replacing various body parts as they gradually wore away.
So why is it that I spent most of Monday fettling my computer? Why do I get up at six every morning to check what's happening on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn? Why does my car have all these complex components that go wrong? Why does answering email take up the best part of my day?
Now I'm not complaining - for a change - just pointing out that we seem to have more to do these days than ever before. So-called labor-saving devices take a hell of a lot of time to look after.
Don't you feel the same way?
