Not just that, but it's a relationship too. Just like my cute little gears above. Ask not, to paraphrase for a moment, what your sponsor can do for you, but what you can do for your sponsor.
If a company has invested in you, make sure that they get a great return on their investment. Sponsors, like employers, ask for references, so make sure you get the best you can.
Remember that your sponsor has a business relationship with you - they expect to see a return on their investment. Let's say that your sponsor has invested $1m - in cash, goods or services - have they seen value for that investment?
Do you mention them at every opportunity?
